On July 31, NACHSA and the National Association of Counties (NACo) submitted a joint comment responding to the Center for Medicaid Services (CMS) interim final rule (IFR) implementing the community engagement requirements established in the Medicaid program under H.R. 1. The comment expresses concern that the IFR goes beyond statutory requirements to narrow potential medical exemptions from Medicaid’s work requirements, creating additional administrative burden and uncompensated health care costs for county governments.
